Jes Past Pupils' Union
Plans are being expedited for the formal re-launch of the Coláisteg Ionáid Past Pupils Union. At a well attended Steering Committee meeting on September 16th the following officers were elected. This group is charged with the task of driving the affairs of the group in its first year.

Amongst the speakers confirmed for the launch night on October 8th are the following;

The theme of the evening’s brief inputs in ‘We Are Jes’ (Should that be We Were Jes?). Speakers will reflect on their own memories of their time in the school. The emphasis will be on light-hearted and gentle reminiscences.
Arrangements are also being put in place for a Dublin gathering of the P.P.U. before one of the home Autumn Internationals. This date will be posted as soon as the Steering Committee makes its call on the question.
Past pupils interested in the P.P.U. revival are earnestly asked to attend the launch on Thursday October 8 th in the School Hall at 8.00pm.

Holocaust Survivor, Tomas Reichental, talks
to the senior Jes students

On Monday May 11, Colaiste Iognaid students in Galway were privileged to hear in person one of the few existing Holocaust survivors, Tomas Reichental, who is currently living in Ireland. Tomas held students spell-bound with his life story: he was born in 1935 in Piestany, Slovakia, and was captured and sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1944 when he was only nine years old. He survived it along with his mother, brother, aunt and cousin, but he lost thirty-five members of his family in the Holocaust
President Mary McAleese's Visit

President Mary McAleese visited the Jes on Wednesday 4 March and addressed the school, staff and parents' groups. The President viewed a number of display boards in the foyer and spoke with representatives of Rugby, Rowing, Hockey, Transition Year Social Outreach and the Slí Eile South Africa trip. She spoke inn the school hall on how the gifts and talents of Jes students gave her hope for the future in the light of such depressing financial news.

Leaving Cert. Students Vs. Staff 2008
   
The annual Jes Studenst vs Staff soccer game took place at Westside Park on Wed 20 May. The students won 4-3 in what was a hotly contested match, many crunching tackles and several dodgy refreeing decisions! Several female members of staff aquitted themselves very well, overshadowing some of the males! A great day out at the sunny if breezy Galway Bay venue...
